Effect of temperature on neuromuscular transmission in the Eaton-Lambert syndrome.

چکیده
A patient with the Eaton-Lambert syndrome is described in whom no associated condition was discovered. There was clinical and electrical evidence that the defect in neuromuscular transmission became more severe as local temperature was raised.

Abnormalities of autonomic function in the Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome.
Two cases of Lambert Eaton syndrome unassociated with an underlying malignancy are described. Both had mild autonomic symptoms but markedly abnormal autonomic function tests. These results are suggestive of a widespread defect in cholinergic transmission in addition to that at the skeletal neuromuscular junction.
متن کاملThe neuromuscular junction disorders.
Neuromuscular junction (NMJ) disorders result from destruction, malfunction or absence of one or more key proteins involved in neuromuscular transmission, illustrated diagrammatically in fig 1. The most common pathology is antibody mediated damage or down regulation of ion channels or receptors, resulting in myasthenia gravis (MG), Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), and acquired neuromyo...

Sir: Muscle weakness in the myasthenic syndrome of Eaton-Lambert' is caused by diminished transmitter release from motor nerve endings2 secondary to morphological destruction of the active release zones in the nerve terminals3 which is thought to have an autoimmune aetiology."5 Immunosuppressive therapy has recently been recommended5 but its full effect is delayed by several months and severe s...
متن کاملA case of Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome with possible myasthenia gravis.
Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a rare autoimmune disorder of neuromuscular transmission (NMJ) that shares many clinical features with myasthenia gravis (MG). We report a 73 year-old lady who presented 10 years previously with stiffness of both calves, dry mouth, fatigue, proximal weakness and areflexia in lower limbs. Neurophysiological studies were consistent with LEMS. Her work u...
متن کاملNon-paraneoplastic Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome: a brief review of 10 cases.
Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is an immune-mediated disorder of the presynaptic neuromuscular transmission, which more frequently occurs as the remote effect of a neoplasm, in the paraneoplastic form (P-LEMS), or in a non-paraneoplastic form (NP-LEMS); but few studies describe the clinical features of NP-LEMS. We analyzed the clinical manifestations, laboratory findings, electrophysi...
